How Multispeciality Hospitals Can Get More Appointments from Google (Without Breaking Ad Policies)

By the SSVIRAL team · ·7 min read

A multispeciality hospital gets more appointments from Google by doing four things well: making every branch easy to find on Google Maps, giving every department and doctor a page that answers patients’ questions and makes booking easy, running Google Ads by department with copy that stays inside healthcare policies, and tracking calls and bookings so budget goes to what actually fills the OPD. This guide walks through each step in the order we recommend.

Start with the departments that have capacity

Before touching Google, decide where growth should come from. Most hospitals have some departments running close to full and others with open OPD slots, a new consultant, or expensive equipment that isn’t being used enough. Marketing a department that’s already full only creates longer waiting times.

Sit down with administration and the heads of department and agree three things:

  • Priority departments for the next three to six months, usually two or three to start.
  • Capacity: how many extra appointments each one can realistically take per week.
  • What a good enquiry looks like: an OPD consultation, a diagnostic test, a health package, a second opinion.

This short list shapes every decision that follows, from which keywords to bid on to which pages to build first.

Get Google Business Profile right for every branch

For many hospitals, Google Business Profile (the listing that appears on Maps and in local results) brings more calls than paid ads, and it costs nothing per click. Yet profiles are often incomplete, duplicated or managed by nobody.

For each branch, check that:

  • The name, address and phone number exactly match your website and other listings.
  • The primary category is correct (for example “Hospital”), with relevant secondary categories.
  • Departments and services are listed in plain language that patients actually search for.
  • Opening hours are accurate, including emergency and OPD timings, and holiday hours are updated.
  • Photos show the real building, entrance, parking, reception and facilities.
  • The appointment or website link goes to the right branch page, not just the homepage.

Then give someone responsibility for the profile every week: answering questions, posting updates about camps or new specialists, and responding to reviews.

Build department and doctor pages that convert

Sending ad traffic or search visitors to a generic homepage wastes most of it. A patient searching for a knee specialist wants to land on an orthopaedics page with clear next steps.

A good department page includes:

  • What the department treats, in patient-friendly language.
  • The doctors in that department, with links to their profiles.
  • Facilities and the branches where the service is available.
  • OPD timings and a prominent “Book appointment” and “Call” button.
  • Answers to common questions, written clearly and reviewed by your clinicians.

A good doctor profile includes qualifications and experience as your hospital states them, specialties, languages spoken, OPD days and timings at each branch, and a one-tap way to book. Many patients search for doctors by name before they visit, so these pages also build trust for people who heard about a doctor offline.

Keep every page fast on a mobile phone. Most patients will be on mobile data, often while worried and in a hurry.

Structure Google Ads by department

One big “hospital” campaign makes it impossible to control spend or see what’s working. Instead:

  1. Create a campaign per priority department, each with its own budget.
  2. Group keywords by intent: specialty + location (“cardiologist near me”), condition searches where allowed, and doctor-name searches.
  3. Add negative keywords from day one to block searches for jobs, courses, free treatment, home remedies and other irrelevant intent. Review the search terms report weekly and keep adding to it.
  4. Target locations realistically. Use a radius around each branch that reflects how far patients actually travel for that department. Emergency care has a much tighter radius than a specialist surgery.
  5. Use call assets and call-focused ads during OPD hours, and schedule them for times when someone will actually answer.
  6. Send each ad group to its matching department or doctor page.

Start with Search campaigns. Consider Performance Max or YouTube later, once tracking is reliable and you know your cost per appointment from Search.

Write ads that stay inside the rules

Healthcare is one of the most regulated advertising categories. Google restricts certain healthcare and medicine content and limits personalised advertising based on health. Indian advertising standards (ASCI) and medical-ethics norms also apply. Ads that break the rules get disapproved, and repeated problems can put your whole account at risk.

Practical rules we follow for hospital ads:

Do Avoid
Describe services, facilities and specialists factually Guaranteeing cures or outcomes
Mention timings, branches and how to book Unverifiable superlatives like “best hospital in the city”
Use calm, reassuring, clear language Fear-based messages that play on anxiety
Promote health packages with clear inclusions Before-and-after claims or misleading images
Keep landing pages consistent with the ad Targeting or retargeting people based on health conditions

When in doubt, keep it factual and ask your medical team to review the copy. It’s slower than writing ads alone, but it’s much faster than recovering a suspended account.

Track calls and appointments, not clicks

Most hospital enquiries happen by phone. If you only track form submissions, you’re blind to most of what Google produces.

Set up, at minimum:

  • Call tracking on ads (call assets) and on the website (tracked numbers or click-to-call events).
  • Form and WhatsApp click events in Google Analytics 4 through Google Tag Manager.
  • A simple process at the front desk to note where each new patient heard about you, or better, an integration with your hospital information system or CRM.

With this in place you can calculate cost per appointment for each department. That number is what tells you whether to raise a budget, fix a landing page or pause a campaign. If your systems allow it, import confirmed appointments back into Google Ads as offline conversions so bidding learns from real outcomes.

Build reviews the right way

Patients compare ratings before they call. A steady flow of genuine reviews helps both Maps rankings and conversion.

  • Ask every satisfied patient, at discharge or after an OPD visit, with a short link or QR code for that branch.
  • Respond to every review, positive or negative, politely and without revealing any patient information.
  • Take negative reviews offline: acknowledge, apologise where appropriate and invite them to contact a named department.
  • Never buy reviews, post fake ones or offer incentives for positive ratings. Platforms remove them and penalise profiles.

Add SEO and AI-search content over time

Paid ads bring appointments quickly; organic search compounds over months. Once department and doctor pages exist, keep improving them:

  • Answer the questions patients ask your doctors every day, in clear language, reviewed by the doctors themselves.
  • Add structured data (schema) for your organisation, branches, doctors and FAQs so search engines and AI assistants understand your pages.
  • Keep names, addresses, timings and phone numbers consistent everywhere.
  • Build local relevance with health camp pages, community programmes and partnerships.

AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews increasingly answer “which hospital should I go to for…” questions. Clear, accurate, well-structured information gives you the best chance of being mentioned.

A simple 90-day plan

Days 1–30: agree priority departments and capacity, fix tracking, clean up every Google Business Profile, and build or improve pages for the priority departments and their doctors.

Days 31–60: launch department-wise Search campaigns with policy-safe copy and call assets, review search terms weekly, and start a review routine at every branch.

Days 61–90: compare cost per appointment by department, move budget to the best performers, test new ad copy and landing-page improvements, and plan content for the next quarter.

Most hospitals don’t need more marketing channels. They need the basics done properly, department by department, with honest measurement. If you’d like a second pair of eyes on yours, our free growth audit reviews your profiles, pages, ads and tracking, and shows you where appointments are being lost.
